Davis, Cook lead Heat to rout of Bobcats
Ricky Davis came off the bench and scored 23 points, and the Miami Heat cruised to a 110-90 win over the Charlotte Bobcats.
Rookie guard Daequan Cook added 19 points off the bench, and Shaquille O'Neal had 15 points and six rebounds for the Heat, who have won three of five after losing eight of nine to open the season. Udonis Haslem scored 14 points and Dwyane Wade scored 13 points for Miami.
Gerald Wallace paced the Bobcats with 16 points. Raymond Felton finished with 14 points, seven assists, and six rebounds for Charlotte, which dropped its fourth straight. Matt Carroll scored 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting off the bench for Charlotte.
The Heat broke the game open in the third quarter, when they outscored Charlotte, 31-19. A driving layup by Wallace pulled the Bobcats within 63-54 with 7:33 left in the quarter, but the Heat scored six straight, and a Wade jumper boosted the Miami lead to 15 points.
Charlotte trailed by 13 points late in the quarter, and then the Heat slammed the door shut by closing the third with 11 straight points. Miami extended the stretch into the fourth quarter, with a 15-0 run that pushed the Heat lead to 28 points.
Davis kicked off the run with a three, boosting Miami to a 78-62 lead with 1:39 left in the third. A Daequan Cook jumper in the final seconds of the quarter gave the Heat an 86-62 lead entering the final 12 minutes.
"There is a lot of different things we're trying to do to find a lineup. Tonight the guys wanted to play. They played well together and shot the ball well tonight," said Heat head coach Pat Riley.
Daequan Cook sank another jumper to start the quarter, and a Jason Williams jumper pushed Miami ahead 90-62 with 11:14 remaining. Miami coasted to the finish line from there.
The Heat led 23-15 after the first quarter, and pushed their lead to 55-43 at the half.
"We did not execute at the beginning of the game and got down," said Felton. "We never recovered from that."
Game Notes
The Heat shot a season-high 58 percent from the field, and the 110 points were the most the team has scored since February of this year, also against the Bobcats...Daequan Cook's 19 points set a career-high for the rookie...Davis' 23 points tied a season high.
