Cook, Conley To Make Draft Decision
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Monday was the deadline for Ohio State University men's basketball players Daequan Cook and Mike Conley, Jr., to decide whether to stay at OSU or enter the NBA draft.
According to one of their former Amateur Athletic Union basketball coaches, Conley and Daequan Cook were opting to enter the ranks of the professionals and leave behind their days as Buckeyes.
Former AAU coach Albert Powell told 10TV's Dom Tiberi the two players are prime prospects for the NBA.
Powell said it was not an easy decision for the two to make. He added that he felt they were making the right decision.
Both players have been working out for pro teams. And those workouts have gone very well, according to Powell.
The bottom line was, their playing days at Ohio State are over.
"Daequan Cook and Mike Conley, Jr., are 110 percent staying in the draft. Both are expected to be drafted in the first round. While Mike's probably to be drafted in the top ten, I imagine that Daequan will be a late first round draft pick," Powell told Tiberi by phone.
Powell is a paid assistant coach at Dayton's Dunbar High School who helped coach both players, as well as Greg Oden, when they played AAU basketball.
So Conley and Daequan Cook appear to be joining their AAU and Buckeye teammate Greg Oden in the NBA draft. Oden is projected to be the top player in this years draft, which will be held on Thursday June 28.
