OSU freshmen to huddle about NBA draft
The three Ohio State freshmen basketball players who are considering an early jump to the NBA will meet Sunday to begin weighing their options. Their decisions could come as soon as next week, according to the father of one of them.
“That's just me talking,” Mike Conley Sr., father of point guard Mike Conley Jr. and the players' prospective agent, said today, “but in my estimation, I think (they will decide) sometime next week.
“Regardless of what they decide to do, they need to prepare for what they decide to do.”
The meeting will be in Indianapolis, where Conley Sr. lives and his son and Oden played at Lawrence North High School.
Oden, a 7-foot center, is generally regarded as the No.1 pick in the June 28 draft.
Since the Buckeyes' run through the NCAA Tournament to the championship game last week, Conley Jr.'s stock has risen to the point that he also could be a top-10 pick, according to various mock draft boards on the Internet.
The third freshman, shooting guard Daequan Cook, is not rated as highly as his two teammates and may not be taken in the first round.
Underclassmen have until April 29 to enter the draft and until June 18 to withdraw their names without forfeiting their college eligibility, if they have not signed with an agent.
